James A. Randall
(1861-1940)

James Randall was born in Syracuse, the son of a contractor and builder. After his public school education, he entered the office of James H. Kirby and later worked for the North River Construction Company, which had contracts for building the West Shore Railroad. When he returned to Syracuse, he became J.H. Kirby's partner (1887-88), and from 1893-1922 he was associated with Asa L. Merrick. From 1922 on, the firm was organized as Randall and Vedder (James R.).

Besides having been a champion tennis player, Randall held offices in the local chapter of the A.I.A. -- he was president (1934-1936) -- and was a founder of the Sedgewick Farm Club.
